Using the mosquito netting as a sling, Accalia secured the baby onto her back, making it possible to easily carry her father’s silver arms as well, and after she drank the remainder of the water from the coffee pot, they set off, backtracking along the path that led her to this place just a few days before. The baby squealed with delight at the dangling moss that lightly caressed the top of his head. Accalia smiled to herself as she navigated along the path. Finally, up ahead, the sunlight appeared to brighten as the trail left the swampy forest and revealed the paved road. Stopping for a brief rest, she laid the silver arms on the ground, mopped the sweat from her face with the hem of her dress, and readjusted the sling which had slackened from the baby’s excited squirms. Almost instinctively, Accalia pulled on her father’s silver arms, as if they were gloves, significantly lightening her burden and reinvigorating her for the final stretch home.
